PPL Acting Managing Director Wants Lae Power Outage to be Solved

PNG Power Acting Managing Director, Carolyn Blacklock, has apologised to residents in Lae for the recent lengthy power outages.

Blacklock travelled from Goroka to Lae to learn of the power problems and impact on businesses and the community.

The Acting Managing Director says work on restoring reliable and sustainable power for Lae is underway.

Blacklock also highlighted that PPL has had severe under investment in maintenance resulting in distribution networks not being of standard.

The generator refurbishment projects started in 2014. There has been a focus on defect repair on the main transmission lines over the past year or so and this need to be completed in 2018 as well.

“We are developing a coordinated program across all these projects and initiatives to ensure we minimize and the eliminate delays. Finally we will also be looking for indications of deliberate vandalism that may be the cause of the latest series or indeed of any blackouts,” said Blacklock.

The head of PPL says this area needs focus and better investment.
