Potape: Bando must respect decision by Hela PEC and respond to Allegations

Incumbent Hela Governor Francis Potape is calling on suspended Provincial Administrator, William Bando to respond to allegations leveled against him.

Governor Potape alleged that nearly K9 million has been unaccounted for by Bando in Hela’s public service mechanism.

The Hela Provincial Executive Council recommended the suspension of Mr Bando on the 15th of April 2017.

According to Governor Potape, Mr Bando has not responded to the disciplinary offences.

Potape says, all funding has been halted due to outstanding acquittal reports by Bando. Potape added that the case is serious.

Mr. Bando has filed a case to challenge Hela PEC’s decision, however on 3rd of May the National Executive Council approved the decision by the Hela PEC.

On 19th of May Public Service Minister Dr. Puka Temu wrote a letter specifying the suspension of Bando and declared the appointment of Kove Waiko has the new Provincial Administrator under the Public Service Management Act 2014.

Potape is urging Chief Secretary Isaac Lupari to establish an investigation into Bando’s leadership.

Meanwhile, Minister Temu has written to Governor General Bob Dadae to officially suspend Mr Bando with pay and appoint Mr. Waiko as provincial administrator.

Governor Potape says the turn of events is for the good of the Hela people and its public service.
