Potape Appeals for timely Firearms Surrendering

Hela Governor, Francis Potape, is appealing to groups and individuals in Hela to conform with the dates announced by the Hela Provincial Government, and Joint-forces to surrender unlicensed firearms.

Governor Potape made this statement before the start of the program which will begin in Hulia on the 13th of February.

It’s nearly a month since the Government sanctioned the Call Out Operation in Hela Province early this year.

Couple of gun surrender programs have eventuated however authorities believe there are more unlicensed high-powered guns in communities in Hela.

Hela Governor, Francis Potape says all these firearms must be handed on the dates announced recently.

The recent announcement by the Hela Provincial Government, Law and Order Committee and Joint Forces will see Hulia LLG be the first on the 13th, South Koroba, Haiyapuga, Magarima, Komo, North Koroba, Tebi, Tagali, Kopiago and Beneria.

The Call Out Operation will go into its second phase with a ceremony on the 28th of February signifying the end of the first phase.

Despite the progress of the Call Out, slow funding from the Chief Secretary’s Office was another setback in the operation.

The Hela Provincial Government allocated an additional K2 million to the Call Out.
