POLICE UNION PRESIDENT SLAMS SOCIAL MEDIA SPECULATION.

By Louis Maingu

President of Papua New Guinea police union, Lowa TAMBUA expressed his disappointment on allegations on social media by certain individuals on what transpired in the 10th of January.

Tambua said that “Spin doctors” on social media have been misinforming the people, claiming that Wednesday’s Riot was incited by him.

President Tambua yesterday said that these were misinformation and allegations that have been circulating on social media regarding his involvement and contribution to Wednesday’s Riot.

Tambua revealed that his officers had no knowledge of the gathering of Police personnel last week Wednesday at the Unagi oval.

However, he was requested by the Police department management to address the disgruntled officers on that day.

President Tambua elaborated that on Wednesday, the minister for Internal security, Peter Tsiamalili Jr. with ACP Anthony Wagambie Jr, Met. Sup. Silva Sika and himself have explained the situation to the disgruntled police men and women at Unagi and have ordered them to resume their duties.

The President furthermore apologizes to the civilians and business houses affected from the civil unrest on Wednesday, and appeals to the people who have been spreading false information on social media to stop.

“Social media should be censored because spin doctors have been using this platform to spread misinformation and create chaos”, he said.
