PNG & US Military Partnership Signing

The PNGDF Commander has reassured Papua New Guineans that the border crisis is under control, and PNG’s side of the border, is secured.

Brigadier General Gilbert Toropo made these remarks during the signing of the Acquisition and Cross Servicing Agreement between PNG and the United States of America.

 

This agreement will facilitate the exchange of logistics support, supplies and services during exercises, training or emergencies.

 

The US seeks a secure and prosperous PNG that will play a positive leadership role in the Pacific Islands region.

 

A colorful parade preceeded the signing ceremony this morning. Commander of the Pacific Fleet, Admiral Samuel J. Locklear represented the United States.

 

Admiral Locklear arrived in the country to meet political and military leaders, and reaffirm the two country’s bilateral relationship and strengthen partnership.

 

Meanwhile, on the PNG Indonesia border crisis, PNGDF Commander Gilbert Toropo said the troops have everything under control.

 

Admiral Locklear added that the agreement signed today does not in any way commit either country to any military action.

 

It is solely to facilitate the exchange of logistics support, supplies and services during exercises, training or emergencies.

 

Overall, the agreement is to increase readiness of military partnerships, by reducing the initial logistics hurdles such as bureaucratic processes.

 

The US has bilateral agreements as such, with over 100 countries worldwide.
