PNG to Host APEC Transportation Ministerial Meeting in October

Transport issues will be the focus for the coming 10th APEC Transportation Ministerial Meeting in Port Moresby.

Transport Minister, Malakai Tabar, said economic development relies heavily on an efficient transport system.

“A better transport system helps any country to move forward and develop,” said Tabar.

Both Ministers admitted that the current poor transport system across the nation was not up to standard, but agreed that the meeting will push PNG forward in redefining a better transport system for the country.

Minister Tkatchenko said this meet will bring about 17 Transport Ministers from APEC countries. All modes of transport will be the focus, by establishing a public-private partnership initiative to elevate and improve connectivity within PNG and the region.

Minister Tabar will be presenting a number of bills for PMV operators, when Parliament resumes this month.

The meeting will be held from the October 9 – 13, this year, in Port Moresby.
