Following the City Pharmacy PNG Palais progress to elevating their profile, Head Coach Elenoa Kunatuba remains positive about the team, despite finishing 11th at the Hong Kong Sevens.
Regardless of their efforts in improving their ranking, Kunatuba was impressed with her side of six new debutants.
Although the team’s only win was against Singapore, with an impressive score line of 22-5; Kunatuba remains composed, as she believes their performance showed promising signs for the future of women’s rugby in PNG.
The Palais aim to improve on their defensive lines, as high-priced decisions, resulted in several yellow cards for avoidable mistakes. As a team, Kunatuba is assertive in moving forward by identifying and improving on both individual, and team weaknesses.
Kunatuba is adamant in using the positives extracted from the Hong Kong 7s tournament.
Finishing 11th out of the 12 competing teams, the former Fijian coach said that overall, the team played well considering having only 10 days of preparations.
With hope and confidence in moving forward, Kunatuba says “this is a new beginning for us as we work our way towards the Pacific Games in 2015. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and now we hope to continue our progression.”
The results: PNG 0, Brazil 19, South Africa 20, PNG 0, Kenya 12, PNG 5, Singapore 5, and PNG 22.
