Share the News

PNG Games is the only opportunity where potential athletes can be identified, PNG Bodybuilding Federation (PNGBBF) Vice President, Jacob Kom, said.

As the 7 BSP PNG Games draws near, the PNGBBFhopes to recruit new talents in the sporting code. Vice President Kom confirmed this today saying, PNG Games provides an opportunity for all sporting codes, especially in Athletics to identify potential athletes.

“PNG Games is the only opportunity where we can identify the potential athletes we recruit them and increase our athletes’ number and we get the best,” Kom said.

He told EMTV Online the selected fresh athletes are put into their provincial association.

“We get them trained and take them around the Pacific and world to take part and get confidence as well as exposure.”

The Vice President boasted of 8 provinces in PNG which have bodybuilding sport with a big number of athletes from Eastern Highlands Province, followed by Jiwaka, Simbu, National Capital District, Morobe, Autonomous Region of Bougainville, Southern Highlands and West New Britain.

According to Kom, Morobe has the highest number of athletes both Male and female participating in bodybuilding. According to PNGBBF’s constitution, the provincial teams are associations affiliated to PNG Bodybuilding Federation.

PNGBBF is affiliated to PNG Olympic Committee, South Pacific Bodybuilding Federation, and World Bodybuilding and Physique Federation.

As the member of all these organisations, Vice President Kom said their Bodybuilders can participate in any competition Internationally.

“Like we just participate in 23rd South Pacific Bodybuilding Championships in Solomon island,” Kom said.

Speaking of his target in this year’s PNG Games, Kom had this to say, “My target now in PNG Games is; I want to do marketing for bodybuilding sport so that we will at least have  someone from the 22 provinces represented in the Federation.”

A total of 14 provinces in the country are without the Sport of Bodybuilding, but Kom believes there are potential bodybuilders out there and only through Games can they be identified. He is confident that they will get them into affiliating with the PNG Body Building Federation and become a member.

Meanwhile, PNGBBF is working on the plan 2020 to submit to PNG Olympic Committee to train their bodybuilders.

They are also looking forward to the National Bodybuilding Championships where Mr. PNG and Ms. PNG are identified to participate in the Pacific Competition and eventually World Bodybuilding Title.
