The Papua New Guinea Women’s 7s team, the Palais, have left for Sydney.
They will be taking part in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Sydney, on February 3 – 4.
The 12-woman team has three debutantes: Fatima Rama, Mavis Mitaharo, and Cathy Puro.
Leading the team is Lynnette Kwarula.
The PNG side is in Pool A of Sydney 7s, and they will be facing the likes of 2016 Olympics Bronze medallist, Canada; European power house, France; and New Zealand.
Coach John Larry said PNG is the only country that is not in the world Rugby Circuit, that will be taking part in Sydney. Their opponents are said to be bigger and stronger.
Coach John Larry says the team will give it their best shot and learn from it.
With experienced players like the Captain herself, Lynnette Kwarula, Kymlie Rapila, Cassandra Sampson and Frieda Waula and Joanna Lagona, Coach Larry is optimistic about their chances.
Though he said, it will be a good challenge as the PNG side will be able to see where they stand in the international arena.
Meanwhile, Captain Lynnette Kwarula has given her assurance that they will give all their best in Sydney.
They will play their first match against New Zealand Friday, February 3, at 2pm.
