As day three of week two begins, the current medal tally stands as below;
With two more days to go till the official closing ceremony of the 17th Pacific games this Saturday the 2nd of December , Papua New Guinea stands at the seventh placing on the Medal tally board with 11 gold medals , 18 silver and 16 bronze medals with a total of 45 medals so far. New Caledonia is still leading the medal tally board in the second week with 67 golds and 150 medals altogether , followed by Australia with 37 gold and 65 medals and followed closely on the third placing is Tahiti with 33 gold and 111 medals.
In Athletics , PNG did a tremendous job gaining medals with Karo Iga took gold in the men’s Decathlon while Edna Baofob bagged the silver for the women’s heptathlon. In running , Isila Apkup over took others to get the silver in the women’s 100 with an impressive finishing time of 11.86 seconds behind Australia’s female runner.
In Weightlifting , team PNG bagged medals with Diko Igo lifting Bronze for PNG in the women’s 63kg division while Samantha Gware came out triumphant in the 57kg division with a gold medal. Navillie Benson grabbed silver in the 47kg division.
As the final days approaching for the official closing of the 17 Pacific Games , final teams taking part this week are traveling to Solomon Islands for the last week of games. This week , teams from Hockey , Weightlifting ,athletics , soccer and women’s and men’s rugby touch go head to head with other teams from our neighboring sister countries.
