National Statistical Office: Census Exercise will Need K200 Million

The head of the National Statistical Office (NSO) says the census exercise will need about K200 million. Acting Statistician, John Igitoi, says unlike the past, cost of goods and services and GDP has risen meaning more funding will be needed to support NSO staff.

“ We have had talks with the National Planning Minister Sam Basil and his officers”

He hopes this funding will be made available so NSO performs its roles to conduct the CENSUS 2020 exercise.

Mr Igitoi says for now the NSO team is conducting District CENSUS Coordinators training around the country.

NSO has past the planning stage and is now into its 2nd phase of preparation. Part of that is to conduct consultation with Provincial Governments and Districts.

“We are currently going around Provinces to conduct training for District CENSUS Coordinators”

Igitoi says the CENUS exercise will provide accurate data to the Government and other stakeholders.
