By Stacey Yalo, Port Moresby

Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science & Technology, Pila Niningi, encouraged students in Higher Learning Institutions, to take on sports as an activity to stay out of trouble.

Minister Niningi upon congratulating the Kumuls for their win against the Wales Dragons over the weekend, stated that getting students in different sporting codes is a way forward to address disciplinary challenges on campuses.

“Rugby League has come a long way in PNG and last weekend’s performance by the Kumuls is evidence that we are scaling new heights in the game. It was satisfying to witness our boys coming out winners on the global stage,” he said.

He said while in his capacity as the minister responsible for Higher Education, he will make sure students are involved in sports so there are new talents to scout for the country’s many national teams.
