NGCB assists student with school fee support

Education is one of the most critical areas of empowerment for women and the National Gaming Control Board realized that through its Community Benefit Fund ‘Give Back Program’.

The prospect of girls having access to higher education and contribute meaningfully to nation-building, has triggered the NGCB to invest in women empowerment programs. Through this approach, women are being given equal opportunity to be educated, acquire skills, information and self- confidence to be a better student, worker, parent, and citizen.

One such young lady is Linda Kokele. She is one of the lucky recipients of funding assistance from the NGCB to pursue her study in Bachelor in Business Management at Papua New Guinea Institute of Banking & Business Management (PNG IBBM) after graduating from the Port Moresby National High School in 2018.

The Board has approved K26, 000 as sponsorship assistance towards her school fees for the year of 2019.

“I am grateful for the NGCB to come to my rescue as my parents are not able to fund my tertiary education with what little they earn from their salaries. We wrote to many business houses requesting for financial support, fortunately, the NGCB has responded well and come forward to put out the misery of my parents’’, Kokele said.

Elated Kokele said the NGCB’s investment in her education will drive her to study hard and give back to the country.

The NGCB CEO, Imelda Agon said empowering of women through education elevates the core responsibility of improving the quality of life for women.

“The NGCB’s support to women and girls’ education spells out the NGCB’s commitment to alleviate poverty and improve livelihoods in the community,” Agon said.
