Newmont has reaffirmed its partnership with the Kokoda Track Foundation to foster future leaders across Papua New Guinea by continuing to support its Archer Leadership Development Program this year.

Of the 24 Newmont-sponsored Archers, four hail from New Ireland province, home to Newmont’s tier-one Lihir gold mine.
Now in its 15th year, the program is renowned for cultivating leadership skills among emerging leaders from tertiary institutions in Papua New Guinea. The program offers rigorous training and mentorship, providing participants invaluable insights into effective leadership and strategic thinking.
A 2024 Archer, Taine Kassman, described the program as extraordinary, adding that it enlightened and challenged him to strive for excellence.
“We learned that leadership starts with self. The program helped us become versatile and understand the role we must play as young leaders of our country. Despite our different backgrounds, the program united us to be active agents of change in Papua New Guinea,” he said.
Another 2024 Archer, Issabelle Vilau, said the program was an incredible and memorable experience.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to be an Archer. The program had a profound impact on us, better positioning us to contribute meaningfully to our communities and Papua New Guinea now and into the future,” she said.
Newmont’s ongoing support of the program reflects its commitment to investing in the next generation of leaders in Papua New Guinea. Participants benefit from hands-on experience at Newmont, learning directly from employees at all levels within the organization.
