A new system will be introduced to manage medical drugs in the country. Health Minister Sir Puka Temu announced this in Port Moresby recently.
Minister Temu says arrangements are inplace with the Australian Government so medical drugs reach health facilities on time and are accessed by people.
Health Minister Sir Puka Temu says, mutual understanding with neighbor Australia will see this system established. The past 10 months has seen all major hospitals and health facilities experiencing shortage in the supply of medical drug.
The O’Neill –led Government was pushed to address this issue despite Health being a priority Government Policy.
The Health Minister says, better dialogue with the wider International Community will see a much improved and reliable health system for PNG.
A major change in the Health system is the establishment of Provincial Health Authorities. Out of 22 Provinces, less than half are yet to establish PHA’s.
Minister Temu says, a deadline will be set so Provincial Governments’ establish PHA’s. He says PHA’s will be the relevant authority where funding and improvements in the health system will be channeled through.
