The Morobe Provincial Government under the leadership of Governor Kelly Naru has come to the aid of Lae City Dwellers Football Club again this year with a sponsorship of K1 million.
This will go towards their participation in the O’ League and the National Soccer League.
In 2016, they were assisted with the same amount.
Last Friday, Governor Naru, who is also the Patron of the club, presented the club with a dummy cheque of K1 million and the first installment of K300,000 to assist the club in their preparation to travel to Fiji for two friendly matches before heading to Auckland, New Zealand for the Oceania Football Champions league.
The funding source of this sponsorship is Governor’s PSIP 2017, Governor’s Office and Church Partnership Program.
Governor Naru said, “on this occasion, we are satisfied that the sponsorship, last year was an investment in our youth who made the people of Morobe and this country proud by retaining the NSL champion tag and setting a high standard at the O’ League.”
“Our sponsorship last year to NSL has resulted in a high level performance by our players in the Oceania cup held last year in Port Moresby where 13 of the 16 goals scored by PNG Kapuls were contributed by LCDFC players namely Raymond Gunemba, Nigel Dabinyaba and Michael Forster. These three players are now playing overseas in New Zealand, Malaysia and Solomon Islands” said Naru.
Governor Naru further said during the presentation that “the government of Morobe’s support of K1 million to LCDFC is themed as ‘Christ in Football Ministry’, which mirrors the high code of ethics, discipline and standards set by players themselves and management.”
