MP Kuman: Disaster Must Be A Lesson Learnt

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Karamui Nomane MP and Education Minister, Nick Kuman, says this year’s dry season must be a lesson for our people, the government and relevant stakeholders.

Mr Kuman said agencies tackling and addressing the issue must assess the current situation, and plan for the future.

Over 50,000 people in Simbu’s Karamui and Gembogl area were the worst affected.

MP Kuman visited the area recently to distribute rice to the affected Local Level Governments.

Around K50,000 was collected from business houses, embassies, individuals and associations of countries in Port Moresby in the last two months.

However, Mr Kuman said the rations will not last or feed everyone and those severely affected will be prioritised to receive distribution depending on population of the area.

The National Disaster Office is yet to assess the district’s disaster report.

Kuman said after NDO goes through the report, stakeholders will meet to establish a way forward and prepare the district in food wise to prepare for the next dry season anytime.
