Monagi prepares for IAAF meet

24-year-old Adrine Monagi from Northern and Morobe provinces is preparing to represent PNG in the upcoming International Athletics Associations Federation World Championships or IAAF meet later this month in Doha, Qatar.

Following the injury of first choice Rellie Kaputin who qualified for the event, Monagi was selected by Athletics PNG to take her place.

The Pacific Games silver medallist says she was shocked by grateful for the chance to fly the PNG flag, and takes this as a chance to prove herself against the best in track and field events.

Monagi is not a new face in athletics, having competed in junior and senior athletics tournaments onshore and abroad.

Her latest medal hall came from the recent Pacific Games from Apia, Samoa where she won silver in the 100m hurdles.

“The experience is there, I just need to harness in,” says Monagi.

Adrine is expected to participate in the coming Southern Regional Championships in Port Moresby before she departs for the world championships.
