Marape: Hela Needs Full Arm of Law and Justice to Function

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Tari Pori MP, James Marape, says Hela needs the full arm of law and justice to function.

Mr Marape says Hela has only 40 police officers, a figure below the average ratio. He says, authorities will be working together to control and monitor the situation.

The Tari Pori MP says additional security forces will be dispatched to Hela. The ongoing clashes are a result of payback killing after a councilor was murdered.

Emergency Controller, Dr William Hamblin, has issued an emergency order for Hela province. “This order will be implemented by relevant authorities”, said Dr Hamblin.

Dr Hamblin urged all security forces to mobilize and take control of the town.

The Controller also clarified that the relief effort is now impossible to continue, given the recent unrest in and around Tari town.

Dr Hamblin says the PNG Defence Force and Police will set up roadblocks to monitor the situation. He maintained that Tari town will be monitored until the Order is lifted.
