MARAPE MEETS AUSTRALIAN DPM

Prime Minister James Marape has met with the Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles at the Prime Minister’s office in Port Moresby.

Prime Minister Marape and the Australian Deputy Prime Minister confirmed that the two countries have a comprehensive strategic economic partnership relationship which is stronger and closer that builds a strong foundation.

The Australian Deputy Prime Minister said he has travelled to PNG more than 20 times and his first visit was back in 1984.

He said the two nations have set a strong foundation and are more like family than just friends.

DPM Marles said the strategic circumstances faced in the world right now are complex and challenging.

“We have been talking about defense level, having more coordination and we are looking at ways where we can support that as well as policing level” Marles said

Marape said Australia understands PNG much better in the way our economy is moving and it supports PNG accordingly.

After the meeting with PM Marape, the two Deputy Prime Ministers of Australia and PNG left for Morobe Province for the opening of the Angau Memorial Hospital.
