Makoda to Incorporate Culture with Games

by Lorraine Genia – EM TV, Port Moresby

Papua New Guinean creative industries company, Makoda Productions, has bold plans in place for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2015  Pacific Games.

As Papua New Guinea’s rich cultural diversity remains the focal identify of our nation, and our people, managing director of Makoda Productions Tanya Nugent and team will be incorporating PNG’s culture with the opening and closing of the games.

While much of the ceremonies remain a mystery, Tanya said the opening of the games will be much like a cultural festivity or traditional gathering – something, the people of Papua New Guinea and the Pacific for that matter can relate to.

Tanya also said, while the opening and closing of the games were an important element of the games, this will be a manageable challenge at hand for her and her team.

With the expertise of Nigel Jamieson as the artistic director, equipped with a wealth of experience having directed ‘Tin Symphony’ for the 2000 Sydney Olympic opening ceremony, and the closing ceremony of the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games alongside executive producer, Merryn Hughes, who has produced the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and The Rugby World Cup in 2003 and 2011, the 2015 Pacific Games will be the first of its kind and will set the benchmark for other Pacific Games to follow.
