By Martha Louis – EMTV News, Madang

The Madang Provincial Executive Council has imposed a liquor ban in the province effective as of the 25th December until 2022.

Madang Governor, Peter Yama, made the announcement yesterday, saying all liquor licenses will be terminated with all liquor outlets ban from selling alcohol. Yama added that those who want to consume alcohol can do so at designated places like hotels.

The Madang provincial Executive Council has imposed this four-year ban on the sale of alcohol in the province effective next Tuesday which is on Christmas Day.

Madang Governor, Peter Yama, advised all liquor outlets in the province to sell out all their alcohol before the 25th of this month.

This decision was reached after weighing out the economic benefits and revenue generated from alcohol against the social problems associated with the use of the substance.

Mr Yama says though this decision would not go down well with many people, it is for the best interest of the majority of the people of Madang that a liquor ban must be imposed.
