Madang not Happy with APEC Meeting Schedule

The Madang Chamber of Commerce are disappointed because their hope for Madang to participate in meetings linked to the APEC 2018 Meeting is not in the program.

There were hopes the Madang’s participation and share of benefits would be included, the upgrade of roads, hospital and other infrastructure.

Meanwhile businessman, Sir Peter Barter also expressed his disappointment, for Madang being entirely excluded from APEC events.

The schedule meetings venue for the APEC 2018 has not gone down well with the Madang Chamber of Commerce.

They claimed while the meetings will focus mainly in Port Moresby, other centers like Madang will be left out…although as promised.

Madang businessman, Sir Peter Barter has supported calls by the Chamber of Commerce in the province saying Port Moresby is not only Papua New Guinea.

As the owner of the popular Madang Resort Hotel, Sir Peter claimed he has spent millions of kina to upgrade the resort for the APEC smaller meetings, as promised by the Prime Minister and the APEC CEO during the opening of the Wonong Wing Hawkins.

This encouraged him to make major further investments to build more five star rooms and other facilities in readiness for the first meeting that was to take place in early December and throughout 2018.

They were also given APEC Flags in readiness.

And despite numerous emails requesting confirmation no response was received from the APEC committee.

Sir Peter in a statement said he has no personal interest in the matter.

However when he made decision to invest and assist with the APEC meetings at no cost to the National or Provincial Government.

He hoped the APEC 2018 event would have helped restore Madang’s image of Madang and PNG, and encourage both domestic and international tourists.
