Lihir Mine, first with high-speed broadband link

The expectation of fast and efficient telecommunication services within a mine environment is crucial.

With this in mind, Newcrest, operators of Lihir Mine, have partnered with Australian Telco, Telstra, and O3b Networks to deliver a high-speed broadband link linking the mine to the rest of the world.

Lihir has become the first mine within the Southern hemisphere to implement this technology.

According to Chief Information Officer, Gavin Wood, “As well as enabling better IT and digital solutions for our operation, the new link will help to make Lihir a better place to work and live for our workforce”.

Newcrest is the latest company to subscribe to the satellite services being offered by O3b – a company which claims to be the fastest growing satellite communication company at the present time.
