Lavinia, From Water Girl To A Star

by Tere Alex – EMTV, Port Moresby

From the notorious community in Port Moresby, she rose to stardom in soccer: Lavinia Hola is the country’s national rep who has pledged to bring soccer to next level.

All eyes will be on her next year in the Pacific Games. Lavinia Hola gets loads of motivation from her parents who were once soccer stars themselves.

Being a water girl can make a difference, she recalls. “My interest in soccer developed when I became my mum’s water girl when she played in a suburb competition in Gerehu.”

Growing up in a notorious part of the city means nothing to her. She calls it home for the past 18 years and aims to teach keen footballers to one day represent their country, just like her.

The Gulf mixed Oro defender proclaims her commitment as she works her way up both in nurturing her soccer talent and her daily welfare.

As the 2015 Pacific Games fast approaches, our athletes are a priority and there is no doubt that this young talent, who is passionate and confident to put Papua New Guinea up in the medal tally, is more than capable.

Despite challenges encountered by the community she lives in, she has beaten all odds to face the struggles, going forward as a role model.
