Lae’s Angau General Hospital Confirms Seven Deaths in Fatal car Accident

 

The Accident and Emergency unit of the Angau General Hospital in Lae has confirmed that seven people were killed in a car accident at 7 Mile on Tuesday afternoon.

Doctor in charge of the Accident and Emergency department, Dr. Alex Peawi, says the hospital received 26 passengers in total.

From information pieced together from patients, the 25-seater PMV bus was travelling at high speed when it crashed at 7-mile at around 4:30pm yesterday.

Dr. Peawi, says the PMV was overloaded with 33 passengers.

The driver was trying to avoid a semi-trailer that was moving out onto the road ahead he lost control and went off the road, and into the drain.

From official reports from the hospital, 16 people have been treated and discharged with minor injuries. Two of them are children.

Eight are in critical condition, and are admitted at the accident and emergency unit. Dr. Peawi, says this accident adds to the relatively high number of traffic accidents they have been receiving.

Most patients who go to the hospital for treatment are from traffic accidents.
