Koroba District Hospital Receives K3 million for Major Redevelopment

By Jack Lapauve Jnr – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Oil Search Foundation is contributing up to K3 million to help fund the redevelopment of the Koroba District hospital in Hela.

The announcement was made by Chairman and Oil Search Managing Director, Peter Botten, in Koroba recently.

Koroba Kopiago MP Petrus Thomas says the partnership is to improve and provide better health services to communities far and near.

“We wanna see Kopiago as one of the best district hospitals in the country., and we wanna do that quickly and the only way we can do that is by partnerships,” Oil Search Managing Director Peter Botten said.

This would be a boost to the level of health services provided in the Koroba District of Hela Province. Through the Oil Search Foundation, the multi-million kina package to redevelop the health facility will see contributions from both the PNG and Australian Governments.

The redevelopment hopes to provide care and treatment for birth complications, serious infections and provide effective treatment for other curable diseases.

An x-ray and surgery machines are expected to arrive mid-March including pathology lab funded by Australian Government and OSF.

“For me alone,  one person,  I could not deliver everything in Koroba Kopiago…I chose Oil Search Foundation and the Australian Government and together in partnership, I know that we can deliver the much-needed services – one of them is the Koroba District hospital,” Koroba Kopiago MP Petrus Thomas said.

The redevelopment of the Koroba District Hospital will be the first after the devastation by the 7.5magnitude earthquake in 2017. Authorities believe communities will access this service soon following the completion of the district hospital.

An x-ray and surgery machines are expected to arrive mid-March including pathology lab funded by Australian Government and OSF, meanwhile, the groundwork has already begun for the new health facility.
