More than 400 students from the International Training Institute graduated today with certificates, diplomas and advanced diplomas.
Since the institution was established in 1999, it has graduated over 2000 students with certificates in accounting, business and management.
Graduation celebrations were held at the Gateway Hotel in Port Moresby today, attracting close to a thousand relatives and 32 students from ITI campuses in Rabaul, Kimbe, Wewak and Buka, who flew in to Port Moresby to receive their certificates.
However, according to the Executive Director of Certified Practising Accountants, Yuwak Tau, only one tenth of the eligible 3million Papua New Guineans will be able to find work.
“Statistics show that only 25% of grade 12 students in PNG will be selected to do tertiary studies in the state institutions,” said Mr. Tau.
He added that the remaining 75% will enter privately-run education institutions.
Mr. Tau said PNG still has a high unemployment rate and encouraged the graduates to have the right attitude to remain in the workforce.
ITI is expanding into other provinces and degree courses in I.T. and accounting will soon be introduced.
