The Central Provincial Administration with representatives from the National Department of Health and World Health Organization launched and observed the Immunization Week in Tubusereia village.
The outreach for the immunization week was aimed at vaccinating as many children in the community as well as raising awareness about the critical importance of full immunization throughout children’s life.
Program officer of the Expanded Program for Immunization, Dr. Mathias Bauri says protecting children from immunizable or vaccine-preventable diseases, lessens the burden of further costs.
The routine immunization saw children aged two and below vaccinated against BCG, hepatitis B, PCV, and measles.
According to Dr. Bauri, the polio outbreak since last year was due to lack of immunization. Parents and guardians of children under five years, who are not vaccinated are urged to do so, while vaccination is still going on.
Meanwhile, team leader for EPI, Dr. Deborah Bettels announced that there will be a special immunization and awareness in June, this year, for measles and rubella.
