IBS Debate Competition To Go Regional

The annual IBS Debate Competition is set to go regional for the first time this year.

This was revealed by IBS Events Coordinator, Rose Gerari, during a cheque presentation today by PNG Ports Corporation at the IBS campus, in Port Moresby today.

The five thousand kina cheque was donated to the Debate Committee to help fund the competition in other provinces like New Ireland and Northern. The IBS Debate Competition started in 2008 and has attracted major business houses since.

The cheque shows the support for PNG Ports in human development. Representing PNG Ports, Joseph Aisa, said the competition has brought out confidence in many students. It has also helped them in their arguments and has encouraged students to do further research.

Meanwhile, the Debate Competition for schools in NCD ended yesterday, with Mt Diamond as the defending champions. Competition for NCD Schools will start on Monday with ten schools competing.

Selected debaters from the regional debates will represent the nation in the Melanesian Spearhead Debate Competition later this year.
