Kadovar Relief donations continue in Port Moresby

An estimated 100 bags of donated clothes will be shipped to the affected people of Kadovar, Biem and Ruprup Islands. These donations were made by Port Moresby residents.

A number of venues have been allocated for people to donate in cash or kind to the affected islanders in East Sepik.

Since last Monday Port Moresby residents have donated clothes and other household items.

James Yalya, who is coordinating the donations through the NCD Governor’s Relief Appeal, says close to 90 people have responded and donated items.

An estimated 5000 people have been displaced by the volcanic eruption two weeks ago.

These men, women and children have been relocated to the relief centres in Dandan, near Turubu in the Wewak Electorate.

So far, some business houses like Trukai Industry and Lae Biscuit Company have come forward and donated food and medical supplies.

Yesterday, the NCD Governor gave K100,000 to assist the islanders.

All these items will be packed properly and shipped to the affected islanders come Tuesday.
