Housing For The Department of Labor and Industrial Relations

Housing will not be an issue for staff of the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations in Popondetta, Northern Province.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the Department of Lands and Physical Planning, to acquire land to build their houses.

The initiative is part of the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations capacity building program.

Housing is an issue for many public servants in the country.

Many of them cannot afford to buy a house or rent one with the K7 allowance for all public servants.

Over the years, their concerns for proper housing have fallen on deaf ears.

There are few government departments embarking to change that.

The department of Labor and Industrial Relations is one such government entity that is making housing a priority for its staff nationwide.

The Department piloted the project in Popondetta recently.

Secretary for Labor and Industrial Relations George Vaso says, six staff houses will be built on this portion of land once the tenders are done.

Northern Governor Gary Juffa says, adequate housing is a motivating factor for staff.

He commended the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations and urged other government departments to do the same.

Minister for Labor and Industrial Relations Mark Maipakai wants to see that physical structures are erected after the ground breaking.

Acquiring land to roll out the housing project will be an issue but he encourages his departmental staff to work closely with the lands department to ensure land is acquired legally.
