HIV Awareness For Ramu Nico Employees

A six day HIV Testing and Awareness Workshop was conducted for Ramu NiCo employees at the Basamuk Refinery and nearby Ganglau villages in Madang.

Family planning and having one sexual partner was the key message delivered by Agnes Yawok of HIV Bethany and Sister Petra Marau of Family Life who facilitated the workshop.

Mrs Yawok said having one sexual partner poses less risk of getting infected by HIV virus. She also encouraged Ramu NiCo employees to undergo HIV test to get medical attention in time if infected.

“Having HIV test done does not mean you will be ashamed or feel rejected. It means you can get medical treatment early and look after yourself well to continue to live the rest of your life”, she told the workshop.

The family planning training was also conducted alongside with HIV awareness Training. The workshop ended with 26 people appearing for HIV test.

The week long program was jointly conducted by Ramu NiCo Health Center and HIV Bethany based in Madang town.
