Pila Niningi, as the Minister for Higher Education and former a member of the Port Moresby Referees Association in the 80s is encouraging students to not only focus on Rugby League but also to take up refereeing.

He said so much focus has been given to the sport and the players but local referees have not been given the exposure they deserve.

He said referees should be able to train and take part in competitions overseas as a way forward to develop rugby league in the country.
