Hela Election Manager: Hela Ready for Polling

The Hela Election Manager John Tipa said the Province is ready for the polls.

In an interview in Tari, Tipa confirmed that ballot papers and other necessary supporting logistics have arrived in Tari.

“We have everything set and all are locked at the Tari Police Station and are under heavy police security,” said Tipa.

Mr. Tipa made a bold statement that preparations are progressing well, and polling is set as scheduled for June 26th 2017.

1,295 polling officials have been appointed and will take part in the polling to the counting of ballot papers.

“Training of these officials will begin this week prior to polling,” said Tipa.

“We have also confirmed the polling venues and counting,

“I have centralised the counting venues for security reasons, so it will take place in the Hela capital,” Tipa added.

According to Tipa, Hela people will vote in 13 LLG’s, 3 electorates (Tari Pori, Komo- Magarima and Koroba- Lake Kopiago and the Regional seat.

Tipa meanwhile is concerned with the One day polling for Hela.

He said the remoteness of many rural communities will need airlifting of ballot papers and officials to those areas.

“I’m asking the Electoral Commission for an extra day but am yet to receive an answer” said Mr Tipa.

Meanwhile, court-ruled Hela Provincial Administrator William Bando said Nomination and Campaign have been quiet and hopes polling and counting will be the same.
