Following the completion of the 2016 Games Village Police Barracks Touch Competition, Association President, Jimmy Ume, now calls on assistance from business houses or individuals to sponsor the upgrade of the Games Village grounds.
The competition itself has been played on this venue for over 20 years, and it has become an eyesore as no proper upgrade has been done to improve its condition.
Despite seeking assistance over the years to maintain the grounds, no help was offered.
Jimmy Ume, himself, son of a police officer, who has spent years in Games Village hopes assistance can come from external sources, if not from within.
Being aware of the importance of keeping youth in the barracks away from trouble, Ume says having an avenue such as sports, can maintain good behaviour in communities.
And in order to achieve that, a little initiative to assist the Games Village, upgrade their playing ground can go a long way.
On that note, he also encouraged other Police Barracks in Port Moresby and around the country to use sports as a vehicle to better their communities.
