GOVERNOR WISHES PROVINCE

Gulf Governor Sir Christopher Haiveta says, Independence is a testament of a continue strength, unity and the unwavering spirit of the 10,000 tribes in Papua New Guinea.

Sir Christopher said this while wishing the Gulf Province and the nation independence greetings during the flag raising occasion at Kerema Town Oval.

“Today marks our 49th Independence Day, I extend my warmest greetings to every Gulf person and Papua New Guinean, wherever you are across our great nation. This day is a testament to our continued strength, unity and the unwavering spirit of our 10,000 tribes.

Sir Christopher said that this day was also a moment to reflect on the leadership of the for fathers who worked and fought in shaping this country over the past 49 years.

He recognised and thanked the founding fathers including, Michael Thomas Somare and his Bully Beef Club members, Maori Kiki, Tony Voutas, Tony Ila, Pita Lus, Gaudi Pekou, Boyamo Sali, Don Sigimata, Jack Karukuru, James Siaoa, Cecil Abel, Paliau Maloat, Jerry Nalau, and Siwi Kurundo and others.

“I pay tribute to our founding fathers Michael Somare, John Guise, John Momis, John Kaputin, Paulus Arek, Mackenzie Jovopa, Julius Chan, and our very own Tom Koraea, Oupe Oeaka, and Sepoe Karava.

He also acknowledged the former Prime Ministers whose dedication had contributed to this nation’s progress.

“As we celebrate today, let us do so with pride in our identity as Papua New Guineans. Wear our national colours, red, black, and gold with pride and fly our Uaripi-born flag high.” Sir Haiveta said.
