Golden Oldies: Female Golfers Share Experience

The sport of golf in Papua New Guinea has come a long way since the colonial period.

The local talent of golf in the country today has advanced since the code was first introduced, but people know little of the proud history of Papua New Guinean golfers, particularly female golfers, who endured colonial discrimination, and went on win medals for the country.

In an exclusive interview with EMTV, these four friendly and beautiful female golfers, shared their past experiences of their golf achievements when representing PNG, but also shed light on the challenges they faced when playing the sport during the 70s.

Most of them were inspired by their husbands who played golf. But proudly shared their moments winning medals for PNG.

As the younger generation in PNG advances in the sport of golf, a reflection of the past achievements of these female golfers can be a learning phase to build pride in the future of golf in PNG.

And as for these four inspiring women, their continual love for the sport of golf proved that age is just a number as they all participate in this year’s 4-day SP Export PNG Golf Open.
