Gearing Up for Lae Flower and Garden Show

By Julie Badui Owa – EMTV News, Lae

Thirty shelters for displaying flowers, trees and vegetables were built yesterday by more than thirty young Missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lae, Morobe Province.

The display will be part of the Lae Flower and Garden Show that will be held next weekend. The show will be hosted by Friends of Lae Botanic Garden, a volunteered group formed by Lae residents.

The National Botanic Gardens in Lae was established in 1949 for research, conservation and recreation for the residents in Lae and PNG. Due to increasing law and order issues, the centre was closed to the public for more than ten years. It was reopened in late 2015 as part of the Lae National Botanic Garden Advancement Program. This effort was made by Friends of the Lae BotanicGardens, PNG Forests Research Institute and business houses in Lae.

The Lae flower and garden show will be held from 11th to the 13th of this month, and is the first of its kind in Lae. It is an opportunity that will allow exhibitors from the flower and corporate groups to display their flowers, trees and shrubs, and fruits and vegetables.

Each entry will be judged under five categories to be given winning awards.
