The three-day volleyball tournament held in the Gabagaba Village, of Central province, completed the quarter and semifinals yesterday.
Teams from Hula, Tubuserea and host Gabagaba met in the elimination rounds.
GabagabaTeam 1, Lakwas, Baptism Remnants and Just Waba are some of tge teams that brought on exceptional performances.
After two days of testing volleyball, yesterday’s quarter finals saw 16 teams battle to retain a spot in the semi’s; 8 men’s and 8 women’s teams.
In the women’s, Baptism Remnants, Lakwas, Gabagaba and Marsah were the talk of the day, with fierce volleyball action.
And in the men’s, Baptism Remnants again, Deu ,Gabagaba team one, and Hula Team, Just Waba were the forces that kept the tournament from going into semifinals till dusk.
The women’s division saw exceptional highlights from Lakwas and Gabagaba, as they fought their way to the grandfinal.
Despite challenging opposition from the home side, the Tubuserea ladies, the Lakwas toppled the score line with a 3 sets to nil win today.
And in the men’s division, the Grand Final saw Gabagaba’s Deu Golos take on Just Waba in stunning fashion.
In the first set, visiting team, Just Waba made their intentions known early, with a 23 – 25 scoreline, and claimed the set.
The Deu Golos responded in the second set that saw them to a 25 –20 win, that level the score line at 1 set flat.
By the third set, the Deu Golos were well on their way to victory, that set to their name as well.
Late recovery efforts went begging, as the Deu Golos set their marks as champions and claimed the last set.
