Female Dormitory at Markham Valley Secondary School Burns Down

Around 10am yesterday, one of the dormitories at the Markham Valley Secondary School went up in flames.

An EMTV crew was there to witness the fire, and reports that all boarding students were attending church service. There were no students in the dormitory at the time.

The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed.

The students tried unsuccessfully to save the dormitory, but were able to save a building adjacent to the dormitory which also caught on fire.

The dormitory was used to house grade 10 female students, who lost all their belongings.

The school is in its 4th week of classes. Last year during the 2nd term of the academic year, a grade 10 male dormitory was also destroyed by fire.
