Evangelical Brotherhood Church 40th Anniversary

The Government must create a Public Private Policy that will focus on preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

These are the words of Finschhafen Member and Speaker of Parliament Theo Zurenuoc, during the 40th Anniversary of the Evangelical Brotherhood Church in Port Moresby today.

Zurenuoc said, apart from missionary work, most churches are now providing basic health, transportation and education services in rural Papua New Guinea.

It was a colourful celebration which attracted EBC members from other provinces like Madang, Eastern Highlands and Jiwaka.

The 40th EBC Anniversary Celebration of missionary work in PNG coincides with the Sixtieth Anniversary of EBC established in the nation.

EBC was founded in 1909 in Switzerland and the first three missionaries came to be PNG in 1954. They then started the EBC church in Minz, Jiwaka province. it has churches nationwide except Manu and Milne Bay provinces.

It now has eighteen circuits in PNG. For Port Moresby circuit, there are fourteen churches. This includes Waigani, Nine mile and Goldie churches.

Apart from missionary work, EBC has health facilities established in remote parts of Oro, Eastern and Western Highlands and Morobe Province.

Zurenuoc thanked EBC on providing the basic services on behalf of the government saying, the core function of churches is to preach and not provide services.

He said, the Church has a good relationship with the government and this relationship must be strengthened.
