A tourist service provider in East Sepik says the tourism sector is not given the support needed from relevant agencies.

Sepik Tour Operator, Alois Mateos, says many service providers have struggled to support the industry in East Sepik.

Mr. Mateos made this statement following the visit by an Australian P&O tourist ship this week in Wewak.

“The support by [the] East Sepik Provincial Government and other relevant agencies has been poor,” said Mr Mateos.

Mr. Mateos said tourists service providers struggle to provide the best to their customers.

For Mateos and other tourist service providers in Wewak, giving their best is paramount whenever tourists visit the province.

The visit by the Australian tourists brought over 500 hundred visitors.

The PNG Tourism Promotion Authority has made moves to partner with Provincial Governments but only a few have joined.

Currently many provinces are lacking the establishment of a local tourism bureau.
