Consort welcomes two new ships

by Judith Kasek – EM TV, Port Moresby

Two new ships are the latest editions to Consort Express Lines’ shipping fleet.

The company yesterday celebrated the two new additions, giving company shareholders and the media a tour of one of the shipping vessels.

One of the new ships of the Consort fleet will be providing shipping services throughout the country and overseas.

The Gazelle Coast and the Bougainville Coast are the two new ships joining the fleet. The sister ships are the largest vessels belonging to Consort Express Lines.

The ship has a dead weight capacity of over 8,000 tonnes and a container intake of 628 twenty-foot long containers.

The vessels were purchased to cater for the country’s growing economy and to also meet the needs of customers throughout the country.

The 115 metre-long ship has about 27 crew members on board, almost all of whom are nationals.

General Manager of Consort Express Lines, Terry Fuery said the company will continue to make tangible investments in newer and larger ships and containers to meet the demands of customers.

The ship will sail to the Milne Bay islands this week.
