Chimbu Father hospitalised after Boxing day attack

On Tuesday 26th December, 2017 a man from Karamui in Chimbu Province was attacked by his son.

It was around 6:00 am that 54-year-old Kai Halebe from Noruwai village in the Karamui district was cut with a bushknife by his son.

The son, who is known to abuse marijuana and suffers from mental illness, was apprehended and beaten by members of the village soon after the attack.

Officer-in-Charge of Sigimaru Health Centre, Vincent Hariepe, told EMTV News that Halebe (father) sustained several major cuts to his head and back right shoulder.

Hariepe said he was put in a wheelbarrow by villagers and pushed for over an hour to reach the Health Centre.

He received 15 internal and 16 external stitches to the head. For slahes to his back shoulder, he received 10 internal and 12 external stitches.

The son was taken to another clinic for mental evaluation. Police are yet to comment.
