In this first episode of 2018, Business PNG looks at the biggest and most costly event to take place in Papua New Guinean shores; the 2018 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings throughout the year and to culminate, the economy leaders’ meeting and CEO summit in November.
The Asia-Pacific today represents the most dynamic region of the global economy. Founded at the time when economic globalisation was thriving, APEC has become the most important economic cooperation mechanism in the region.
Papua New Guinea will host the meetings for the first time this year, after being a member economy for a little over 20 years. The APEC economic leaders week in November, will be the first time the country will host multiple world leaders all at once.
Despite preparations and anticipation of the meetings, critics remain sceptical about the country’s role in hosting such a big event; criticism surrounding the millions of public monies used. In an exclusive interview with Business PNG, APEC Ambassador; Ivan Pomaleu addresses these concerns and gives a prediction of what residents of Port Moresby will expect.
