Buka Woman Arrested for False Pretense

Police in Buka, Autonomous Region of Bougainville, have arrested a woman for stealing by false pretence.

The suspect was charged and locked behind bars after reports reaching the police that indicated she has been running a form of money scheme business, processing school fee assistance for students.

Earlier this year EMTV News in Buka was contacted and provided with receipts and application forms for the school fee assistance, but was awaiting verification from sources linked to this business.

Political leaders in the National Government and the Autonomous Bougainville Government were claimed, and named, to have approved this school fee assistance scheme including Sitting Regional Member, Joe Lera, Sitting North Bougainville MP, Lauta Atoi and the Minister for Community Development Department of the Autonomous Bougainville Government and some others.

Several people who deposited sum of monies said that they are still awaiting their promised funds. But, according to the suspect, their monies were deposited to a local bank in Buka and were awaiting final clearance for their payments to be made.

According to North Bougainville Regional Commander, Kingsley Lua, police will continue with investigations.
