Basil Refutes Claims Made By PM

Deputy Opposition Leader, Sam Basil has refuted claims made by Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill against him.

Mr. O’Neill said evidences show that former Taskforce Sweep Chairman, Sam Koim, has been meeting with Mr. Basil since 2011.

The Prime Minister has called for a major investigation into the conduct of Koim and Basil.

Today, Mr.Basil responded saying he will voluntarily go in for questioning and challenged the Prime Minister to do likewise.

Deputy Opposition leader and member for Bulolo, Sam Basil, wants the Prime Minister to provide the evidence for the claims made against him and Sam Koim.

Mr. Basil says he has nothing to hide and accused the prime minister of using delay tactics to divert attention.

He supported calls by leaders for the prime minister to step down.

The Prime Minister announced yesterday that evidences before government show that the Task Force Sweep was politically compromised thus calling for a major investigation.

Mr. Koim’s response yesterday questioned the prime minister whether he had enough evidence to prove his defamatory claims.

Basil was minister for National Planning in the then O’Neill Namah government when he spearheaded the setting up of the Taskforce Sweep Team; he has condemned the disbanding of the anti-corruption office.
