Alotau Urban Teams Reclaim Title

By Jack Lapauve Jnr, – EM TV, Port Moresby

Alotau’s Urban Teams in volleyball and netball have re-claimed their titles to prove themselves as champions.

This has seen convincing performances by the Urban Netball team leading throughout the four quarters, and a strong comebacks in both the women and mens’ volleyball games during the Alotau District Members Tournament over the weekend.

It was a re-match of last year’s finals as team Suau, in yellow, fronted their rivals Urban who were in blue.

Team Suau stood their grounds to defend their title, however the girls in blue went out with a firing start in the likes of Agnes Lucas and Salome Arua, finding the net at all cost.

Perfect passing, fast ball work, and better defense stood out in Urban’s game plan as they advanced into the third quarter 33 to Suau’s 18.

Suau pulled themselves up in the 3rd quarter with more goals and aggressive attacks, but could not stop Urban girls from reclaiming their title with a 58 – 41 score line at fulltime.

In the major volleyball finals, Urban men beat Suau with an easy win of 3 sets to nil, while in the women’s division, Urban women fought back 2 sets to 1 to advance and later, reigned as winners.

Game organizers are planning for a bigger and better event in 2015.
