Yesterday (09 January, 2019), EMTV News travelled to the area with a Team from the Central Provincial Administration who were assessing damages caused by the recent floods.

Last week, houses in the Idu Idu village in Agevairu, including trucks also attempting to cross what used to be the road, went under water after the Aroa River burst its banks flooding into the whole village and into the road.

Yesterday, when EMTV News visited the affected areas, locals came forward to express how the flooding has greatly affected their lives.

With the immense destruction caused by the flooding, food gardens have been destroyed, leaving people struggling to look for their next meal, including a place to sleep.

According to the locals, the water level has started to drop as of yesterday, and in the meantime, some of the people have evocated to higher grounds whilst others have been residing beside parts of the road.

The people are calling on the relevant authorities to assist them during this time of disaster.

The central provincial government, through its administration, has put all administrative affairs to a halt, and has established a disaster committee to deal with the issue at hand.
